Golden & Silver Age Comic & Collectibles Auction
Lot 133:
Description
A group of 9 ‘Straight Arrow’ Golden Age comic books, published by Magazine Enterprises (indicated by the “ME” logo) in the 1950s. The lot includes visible issue numbers No. 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 25, and 38, all originally priced at 10¢. These vintage American comics feature colorful, dynamic Western-themed illustrations, often signed by Fred Meagher, depicting “The Original Indian Hero of Radio Fame!” in various adventures. Noteworthy covers include “THE RAILROAD INVADES COMANCHE COUNTRY!” and “INDIAN TRIBES AT WAR!”. One cover (No. 4) provides descriptive text: “Not far from the Broken Bow Ranch lies Sundown Valley… and there, a secret cave gleams with light from an unknown source… A Comanche bow and quiver hang on the golden walls; there is Comanche warpaint, Comanche war garb… and a golden palomino, Fury, whinnies eagerly—greeting his master, Straight Arrow!”. One comic prominently features “Fury” as a title, with additional text “SEE your favorite radio hero!!!” and “WEST COAST EXPRESS” visible. A separate white paper with the handwritten number “133” is also present with the lot.
Condition report:
The comics are generally in fair to good condition, exhibiting typical age-related wear including creasing, corner dings, spine stress, and some discoloration or minor tears. The cover art remains largely vibrant.
