Lot 250:
Description
A vintage comic book, “Archie’s Pal Jughead #2,” published in 1951 by H. John Edwards, presented as an Australian Edition. This comic is professionally encapsulated within a clear, rigid plastic CGC Universal Grade slab, indicating a grade of 5.5 with White Pages. The artwork is attributed to George Frese, and the comic contains stories from both Archie’s Pal Jughead #2 and Archie Comics #44. The paper cover features a red background with a central illustration depicting Jughead receiving a “permanent” hairstyle while simultaneously being fed hamburgers by Archie and a blonde woman. Prominent text includes the title “Archie’s Pal Jughead,” “2ND ISSUE,” and a price of “8D” (eight pence). Dialogue bubbles contain the phrases: “Golly, Archie–Juggy really makes a swell model for this new permanent!” and “Didn’t I tell you? Feed him–and he’s your slave!”. An “Approved Archie Magazine Reading” seal and an “ARCHIE SERIES” banner are also visible.
Condition report:
The comic exhibits wear consistent with its graded condition and age, securely preserved within its professional encapsulation. The CGC grade of 5.5 with White Pages indicates a complete comic with moderate wear, including potential creasing, minor tears, or cover wear, but remains a solid collectible. The encapsulation itself is intact and free from significant damage.
