Golden & Silver Age Comic & Collectibles Auction
Lot 252:
Description
An encapsulated comic book identified through web intelligence as *Captain America #109*, published by Marvel Comics in 1969. The comic features Captain America in his classic red, white, and blue costume, running with his shield, against a background of torn newspaper headlines dated “NEW YORK, MONDAY, DECEMBER 8, 1941.” The cover prominently displays the title “THE ORIGIN OF CAPTAIN AMERICA!” in large red letters, alongside “CAPTAIN AMERICA 12¢ 109 IND. JAN” and the “MARVEL COMICS GROUP” logo. An “APPROVED BY THE COMICS CODE AUTHORITY” seal is also present. The item is encapsulated in a rigid, clear plastic CGC grading slab. The CGC label, however, erroneously identifies the encapsulated item as “Showcase #26” from “D.C. Comics, 5-6/60,” noting a “Jack Miller story,” “Joe Kubert cover and art,” and the “4th appearance of Rip Hunter…Time Master.” The comic is assigned a grade of “5.5” with “OFF-WHITE Pages” by CGC.
Condition report:
The comic book is encapsulated in a CGC universal grade slab, assigned a grade of 5.5 with OFF-WHITE pages. The slab itself appears intact. Moderate wear is consistent with the assigned grade.
