Lot 257:
Description
A professionally graded D.C. Comics “Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen” comic book, issue #134, published in December 1970. The comic is presented in a clear, rigid plastic CGC Universal Grade slab, certified with a grade of 7.5 and “OFF-WHITE TO WHITE Pages.” The cover art, attributed to Neal Adams and characteristic of the Bronze Age comic style, depicts Superman lying seemingly incapacitated, surrounded by several rugged, armed men, while a character inferred to be Jimmy Olsen stands with another figure beside a futuristic vehicle. Prominent text on the cover includes “A KING-SIZE KIRBY BLOCKBUSTER,” “SUPERMAN’S EX-PAL THE NEW JIMMY OLSEN,” “DC 15¢,” and the “APPROVED BY THE COMICS CODE AUTHORITY” seal. Dialogue bubbles read “SUPERMAN’S OUT OF THE WAY, JIMMY!” and “GOOD! NOW OUR ROAD IS CLEAR AND FAST!”, with a banner proclaiming “PREPARE FOR EVENTS NEW TO ALL YOUR PAST EXPERIENCES IN ‘THE MOUNTAIN OF JUDGMENT’.” The CGC label further notes creator credits including Jack Kirby (story), Neal Adams (cover), Vince Colletta, and Al Plastino (art), and highlights the “1st appearance of Darkseid in cameo on last page.”
Condition report:
