Golden & Silver Age Comic & Collectibles Auction
Lot 618:
Description
A collection of eight vintage paper ephemera, comprising six photographs and postcards depicting the Eiffel Tower from various angles, one hand-tinted image of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and one black-and-white photograph of an unidentified European building with figures. The items are predominantly black-and-white and sepia-toned, indicative of early to mid-20th-century photographic prints and postcards. All are individually housed within clear plastic protective sleeves. Visible markings include “Carte Postale” on one item with a French stamp and a partial postmark, featuring a written message translated as: “The prices in France and the Eiffel Tower have risen to incredible heights… foreigners who came from France decades ago.” Another postcard back reads “PARIS – SOUVENIR DE VILLE-D’AVRAY” and “Tous droits réservés / Reproduction interdite.” One print bears a handwritten “Gigi.” A modern black digital tally counter displaying “6 18” is present but separate from the collection and not part of the lot.
Condition report:
The vintage items are in good apparent condition, showing expected signs of age including toning and slight wear consistent with their period. The protective sleeves are modern additions.
