This lot features a pair of vintage Nike metal-spiked baseball cleats attributed to Ricky Horton. The cleats are designed in a red and white color scheme, consistent with the uniform of the team Horton played for during his career, the St. Louis Cardinals. Both cleats are signed by Ricky Horton in black ink on the outer heel. Furthering the player attribution, Horton’s jersey number 49 is hand-written in black marker on the white heel tabs of both shoes. The interior of the footwear is marked as a size 12. These cleats show significant evidence of professional game use, including accumulated field dirt on the soles and metal spikes, scuffing and creasing of the red leather uppers, and general wear to the laces and insoles. Authentication is provided by a JSA (James Spence Authentication) certification sticker with serial number P28568, which is affixed to the bottom of the right cleat.
Condition report:
The cleats are in game-worn condition and exhibit heavy signs of use. The red leather uppers show moderate scuffing and creasing throughout. There is significant deterioration and cracking of the foam padding around the interior ankle collars, which is typical for foam of this era. The metal spikes and soles show heavy wear and retained dirt. The signatures on the heels remain clear and legible with minimal fading.
