BID PER WHAT YOU SEE IN THE PHOTO, NOT THE AI GENERATED TITLES AND DESCRIPTIONS! Baseball 1938 Goudey Heads Up Van Lingle Mungo #254 and Julius Solters #255 Lot
This lot contains two original vintage baseball cards from the 1938 Goudey (R323) "Heads Up" series, manufactured by the Goudey Gum Co. in Boston. These cards are part of the highly sought-after high-number series, which continued the numbering from the 1933 Goudey set, spanning from #241 to #288. The set is famous for its "Big Head" design, featuring a black-and-white photographic cutout of the player’s head atop a small, hand-drawn cartoon body. Card #254 depicts pitcher Van Lingle Mungo of the Brooklyn Dodgers with a blue border. Card #255 depicts outfielder Julius "Moose" Solters of the Cleveland Indians with a red border. The reverse of each card features player biographies and statistics printed in green ink, along with the "Big League Chewing Gum" branding.
Condition report:
Both cards are in ungraded, raw condition and show significant signs of age and handling. Card #254 (Van Lingle Mungo) is in Heavily Played (HP) condition. It exhibits significant corner rounding and softening, a visible horizontal crease near the bottom edge, and general surface toning. The centering is shifted toward the bottom. Card #255 (Julius Solters) is in Damaged condition. It features multiple heavy creases, including a prominent diagonal crease at the top right and a central horizontal crease. There are ink marks on the front (a \"1\" and a \"3\") and ink handwriting on the reverse (\"R. L.\"). The card shows heavy toning, edge wear, and a small nick/tear on the top edge.
