BID PER WHAT YOU SEE IN THE PHOTO, NOT THE AI GENERATED TITLES AND DESCRIPTIONS! A Collection of Vintage NHL Hockey Trading Cards Featuring 1970s and 1980s Topps Sets
A large collection of vintage NHL hockey trading cards, primarily manufactured by Topps, with a smaller portion of early 1990s Score cards. The lot represents cards from the 1970s, 1980s, and early 1990s. Notable individual cards observed include a 1980-81 Topps Wayne Gretzky Record Breaker #80, a 1985-86 Topps Mario Lemieux #9, and several cards in protective top-loaders: a 1972-73 Topps Brad Park #125 (New York Rangers), a 1976-77 Topps Guy Lafleur #10 (1st Team All-Star), a 1976-77 Topps Brad Park #142 (1st Team All-Star), and a 1975-76 Topps Dave Schultz #285. The assortment features various team leader and all-star subsets from 1979-80, 1980-81, and 1981-82 Topps sets. The collection is housed in one cardboard trading card storage box marked Hockey in black ink, with an additional group of loose cards spread for display.
Provenance / Authentication Note: This item originates from a single-owner collection assembled by a dedicated sports fan (with a strong focus on Notre Dame and New York Yankees memorabilia). The collector actively pursued autographs over many years through in-person events, including games, autograph shows, and visits to National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum during player events, as well as through direct mail requests to athletes and celebrities. The collection included supporting material such as handwritten correspondence sent to athletes (in some cases with payment enclosed), along with photographs of the collector with various signers. A portion of this same collection was featured in our March 21st auction, where multiple items were authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA). In regards to any items with signature(s): While this specific item(s) may not be individually submitted for third-party authentication, it originates from the same collection and shows consistency with previously authenticated pieces. As with many large autograph collections, there may be a small number of facsimile or clubhouse-style signatures present, but for the most part we have seen AUTHENTIC SIGNATURES within the collection. Based on the overall provenance and our review, we maintain a strong level of confidence in the authenticity of most items. Bidders are encouraged to review all photos carefully and bid according to their own level of comfort. No additional authentication documentation is included unless visible within the lot photos. Please reach out with any questions.
Condition report:
The cards are uncollated and ungraded. The condition of the lot varies from Good to Near Mint. Common age-related wear is present, including softened corners, edge chipping, and varied centering. While several key star cards are stored in protective plastic top-loaders, many cards are stored loose in the box and show corresponding surface and edge wear.
