BID PER WHAT YOU SEE IN THE PHOTO, NOT THE AI GENERATED TITLES AND DESCRIPTIONS! A Collection of 27 Vintage Baseball Cards Including 1955 Bowman Color TV 1960 Fleer and 1961 Topps
This collection of 27 vintage baseball cards features selections from three distinct major league sets produced between 1955 and 1961. The lot is primarily composed of the 1955 Bowman Color TV set, which is recognized by its distinctive wood grain borders and central player images framed within a television screen graphic. Key cards from this set include number 1 Carl Furillo of the Brooklyn Dodgers, number 160 Bill Skowron of the New York Yankees, number 132 Harvey Kuenn of the Detroit Tigers, and number 215 Carl Erskine of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Also present are Hall of Fame umpire Cal Hubbard number 290 and umpire Dusty Boggess number 291. Other Bowman cards feature players Vic Raschi, Milt Bolling, Preacher Roe, Don Johnson, Paul Richards, Billy Gardner, Jim Hopper, Bob Cerv, Bill Serena, Bill Henry, Jim Brosnan, Frank Baumholtz, Mike Garcia, Ernie Chiti, Joe Amalfitano, and Tommy Byrne. Representing the 1960 Fleer Baseball Greats series are two cards featuring Hall of Famers number 32 Al Simmons and number 41 Frank Baker. The collection is rounded out by three 1961 Topps cards featuring a vertical portrait layout and nameplate graphic: number 447 Norm Larker, number 353 Darrell Johnson, and number 183 Tom Morgan.
Provenance / Authentication Note: This item originates from a single-owner collection assembled by a dedicated sports fan (with a strong focus on Notre Dame and New York Yankees memorabilia). The collector actively pursued autographs over many years through in-person events, including games, autograph shows, and visits to National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum during player events, as well as through direct mail requests to athletes and celebrities. The collection included supporting material such as handwritten correspondence sent to athletes (in some cases with payment enclosed), along with photographs of the collector with various signers. A portion of this same collection was featured in our March 21st auction, where multiple items were authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA). In regards to any items with signature(s): While this specific item(s) may not be individually submitted for third-party authentication, it originates from the same collection and shows consistency with previously authenticated pieces. As with many large autograph collections, there may be a small number of facsimile or clubhouse-style signatures present, but for the most part we have seen AUTHENTIC SIGNATURES within the collection. Based on the overall provenance and our review, we maintain a strong level of confidence in the authenticity of most items. Bidders are encouraged to review all photos carefully and bid according to their own level of comfort. No additional authentication documentation is included unless visible within the lot photos. Please reach out with any questions.
Condition report:
The cards are in raw, ungraded condition, generally assessed in the Fair to Very Good (FR-VG) range. Visible signs of age and handling include soft to rounded corners across the collection and significant chipping or wear on the fragile wood grain borders of the 1955 Bowman cards. Prominent creases are visible on several specimens, most notably number 101 Don Johnson, number 290 Cal Hubbard, and number 291 Dusty Boggess. Centering varies throughout the lot, with some cards being significantly off center, such as number 312 Jim Hopper. Surfaces show occasional scuffing and light abrasions. The card backs exhibit light toning, minor stains, or ink marks consistent with vintage paper ephemera.
