Description
BID PER WHAT YOU SEE IN THE PHOTO, NOT THE AI GENERATED TITLES AND DESCRIPTIONS! A Collection of Seven 1977 Topps Baseball Cards Including Andre Dawson Rookie and Hall of Famers
This lot consists of seven 1977 Topps baseball cards printed on cardstock. The collection features several prominent players and Hall of Famers from the 1977 season. Included is card number 473, a Rookie Outfielders card featuring the rookie card for Andre Dawson (Expos), as well as Gene Richards (Padres), John Scott (Blue Jays), and Denny Walling (A’s). Other notable cards include Reggie Jackson number 10, representing his first Topps card as a member of the New York Yankees, and George Brett number 580, designated as an A.L. All-Star. The lot also contains Rich Gossage number 440 (White Sox), Tony Perez number 170 (Reds), Phil Niekro number 450 (Braves), and Bobby Bonds number 140 (Angels). Each card features a facsimile signature, with the exception of the multi-player rookie card. All cards are presented in individual protective soft sleeves, and four cards are further protected in rigid plastic top-loaders.
Provenance / Authentication Note: This item originates from a single-owner collection assembled by a dedicated sports fan (with a strong focus on Notre Dame and New York Yankees memorabilia). The collector actively pursued autographs over many years through in-person events, including games, autograph shows, and visits to National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum during player events, as well as through direct mail requests to athletes and celebrities. The collection included supporting material such as handwritten correspondence sent to athletes (in some cases with payment enclosed), along with photographs of the collector with various signers. A portion of this same collection was featured in our March 21st auction, where multiple items were authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA). In regards to any items with signature(s): While this specific item(s) may not be individually submitted for third-party authentication, it originates from the same collection and shows consistency with previously authenticated pieces. As with many large autograph collections, there may be a small number of facsimile or clubhouse-style signatures present, but for the most part we have seen AUTHENTIC SIGNATURES within the collection. Based on the overall provenance and our review, we maintain a strong level of confidence in the authenticity of most items. Bidders are encouraged to review all photos carefully and bid according to their own level of comfort. No additional authentication documentation is included unless visible within the lot photos. Please reach out with any questions.
Condition report:
The cards are in raw, ungraded condition. Centering varies across the lot, with noticeable shifts observed on the Gossage, Jackson, and Dawson cards, while the Brett and Perez cards appear to have relatively better centering. Corners are generally sharp for their age, though minor softening and white exposure are visible on some, notably the bottom-left corner of the Reggie Jackson card. The top edge of the Andre Dawson rookie card shows a typical factory rough-cut common to this era. Surfaces appear clean with bright colors and no significant creasing.
