Description

BID PER WHAT YOU SEE IN THE PHOTO, NOT THE AI GENERATED TITLES AND DESCRIPTIONS! James Monroe Signed Land Grant, Cincinnati, Ohio, 1820 This significant historical artifact is a land grant dated March 4, 1820, signed by James Monroe, the fifth President of the United States, and Josiah Meigs, Commissioner of the General Land Office. The document authorizes the transfer of land in Cincinnati to Thomas Brown. The piece is a partly-printed document on vellum featuring period handwriting and an intact, embossed paper seal of the General Land Office at the lower-left corner. It is professionally presented in a double-matted display alongside a black and white portrait engraving of President Monroe. The ensemble is housed in a dark wood frame with a gold-tone inner lip. This item is accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity (LOA) from James Spence Authentication (JSA), certification number ZZ91685 and submission number 442061. The LOA confirms the signatures of Monroe and Meigs are genuine and were executed with a steel-tip fountain pen in black ink. If this item is framed – it can be shipped with or without the frame.

Condition report:

The document is in good antique condition, commensurate with its age of over 200 years. It exhibits original horizontal and vertical fold lines from historical storage. There is minor overall toning, light foxing, and small, stable tears along some of the fold lines and edges. The signatures of Monroe and Meigs are legible, showing characteristic aging and slight fading. The embossed seal remains well-defined. The frame and matting are in excellent, gallery-ready condition.
