Charles Schulz Signed 1986 MetLife Charlie Brown Magazine Advertisement This is an original vintage full-page magazine advertisement for a Metropolitan Life (MetLife) IRA, dated 1986, featuring the iconic Peanuts character Charlie Brown. The illustration, created by legendary artist Charles Schulz, depicts Charlie Brown lying in the grass looking upward at four speech bubbles that repeatedly ask “WHY?”. The marketing copy below reads, “Start your Met Life IRA now. You’ll feel better when the tax man cometh.” This collectible piece is hand-signed by Charles Schulz in the lower right margin using a dark fiber-tip marker. The autograph has been professionally authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA) and is accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity (LOA). The JSA certification number is ZZ91686, with submission number 442061. Note that the JSA document contains a clerical error listing the notarized date as January 29, 2026; however, the notary commission is valid through 2027, and the document is a genuine JSA LOA. The advertisement measures approximately 8 1/8 inches by 10 7/8 inches.
Condition report:
The advertisement is in excellent vintage condition. The paper exhibits minor age-related toning consistent with its 1986 production date. The signature is bold, clear, and highly legible with no evidence of fading or smudging. The edges of the page are clean, and there are no significant tears, creases, or pinholes visible. The accompanying JSA Letter of Authenticity is in pristine condition.
