(Signed) Commemorative First Day of Issue postal cover honoring General Nicholas Herkimer at the Battle of Oriskany, produced for the American Revolution Bicentennial 1777-1977. The envelope features a printed black and white cachet by ArtCraft on the left depicting General Herkimer wounded while leading militiamen, with text reading Official First Day of Issue and Honoring Herkimer at Oriskany. A 13-cent US Bicentennial stamp titled Herkimer at Oriskany 1777 by Yohn is affixed to the top right and cancelled with a Herkimer, New York, postmark dated August 6, 1977, and a First Day of Issue machine cancel. The cover is typed-addressed to Mr. Charles J. Murphy, Auto Club of New York, 28 E. 78th St., New York, N.Y. 10021. Signed by General William C. Westmoreland in black ink across the bottom center-right: W C Westmoreland. Very Good. The cover shows minor handling wear consistent with age. There is a small, faint smudge at the top center. The signature is bold and well-preserved. The reverse features a JSA tamper-evident authentication sticker.
