This lot consists of seven vintage Bronze Age horror comic books published by DC Comics between 1974 and 1981. The collection features several key titles from DC’s supernatural line including five copies of The House of Secrets, one issue of The House of Mystery, and a Ghosts Special. Notable cover artists featured in this lot include Berni Wrightson, Jim Aparo, and Joe Kubert. The individual issues included are: two copies of The House of Secrets No. 118 (April 1974) featuring cover art by Berni Wrightson; The House of Secrets No. 135 (September 1975) featuring cover art by Berni Wrightson and an Abel’s Fables banner; The House of Secrets No. 139 (January 1976) featuring cover art by Berni Wrightson; The House of Secrets No. 153 (September 1978) featuring cover art by Jim Aparo; The House of Mystery No. 298 (November 1981) featuring cover art attributed to Joe Kubert; and Ghosts Special No. 1 (1978) featuring cover art attributed to Joe Orlando. The items are un-slabbed and most are housed in protective clear polybags, with some featuring cardboard backing boards. The comic books show standard newsprint construction with illustrated color covers.
Condition report:
The comic books are in raw condition ranging from approximately Good to Very Fine. Observed wear includes spine stress, edge wear, and corner blunting consistent with age and handling. Specific flaws include a vertical crease on the front cover of House of Secrets No. 135, a crease at the lower right corner of House of Secrets No. 153, and a price sticker on the upper right corner of the Ghosts Special issue. All covers and pages appear intact.
