Description

A vintage automotive advertising showcard printed on heavy cardstock, promoting a demolition derby event at Dorsey Speedway in Maryland. The poster features bold block lettering printed in red ink against a cream-colored background. The printed text reads: DEMO DERBY, DORSEY SPEEDWAY, MON., JULY 5 2 p.m., Gates Open 12:00 Noon, REGISTER NOW, $500 TO WINNER. Handwritten in pencil in the lower margin is the text: RAIN DATE – Sunday 11th – 2 p.m. The reverse of the cardstock shows natural age-related toning. Dorsey Speedway was a racing facility located in Elkridge, Maryland, which operated from 1951 to 1985.
Condition report:
The showcard displays moderate wear consistent with age and outdoor display. The front shows overall toning, yellowing, and scattered water staining, particularly along the lower and left margins. There are small pinholes and staple holes in the corners, with a small paper loss and tear at the upper right corner. The reverse exhibits prominent vertical water staining and tide lines along the left side, along with a paper pull and adhesive residue in the upper left corner.
