A graded Golden Age comic book, “Whiz Comics #49,” published by Fawcett Publications in December 1943, encapsulated by CGC with a Universal Grade of 3.5 and off-white pages. The colorful cover, attributed to C.C. Beck, features Captain Marvel playing a piano, with his foot resting on a caricatured Nazi soldier adorned with a swastika armband, who is visibly distressed. Circular portraits of “Captain Marvel” and “Spy Smasher” appear above the bold “WHIZ COMICS” title. Additional text includes “DECEMBER,” “NO. 49,” “A FAWCETT MAGAZINE,” the original price of “10¢,” and a note for “68 PAGES IN FULL COLOR” featuring Captain Marvel, Spy Smasher, Golden Arrow, Ibis and Taia, Lance O’Casey, and others. A prominent speech bubble from Captain Marvel urges, “FORWARD, MARCH! THE CRY RINGS OUT— FORWARD ON THE DOUBLE! OUR SHIPS AND PLANES AND TANKS AND GUNS WILL GIVE THE AXIS TROUBLE! MARCH TO THE FACTORY, MARCH TO THE FIELD, MILLIONS OF MARCHING FEET— FORWARD! THERE’S NO RETREAT!” The bottom banner reads, “CAPTAIN MARVEL WRITES A VICTORY SONG! SEE PAGE 4.” The CGC slab label further specifies “Otto Binder story, C.C. Beck cover, C.C. Beck, Emil Gershwin and Clem Weisbecker art” and certification number 4622080016.
