Description
A group of four vintage American pulp science fiction magazines, all titled “Startling Stories,” dating from the early 1940s, specifically July 1940, September 1940, November 1940, and July 1941. Each magazine features vibrant, stylized illustrations characteristic of the pulp art genre, depicting various science fiction themes including astronauts, aliens, and futuristic cityscapes. Prominent text notes “NOVEL OF THE FUTURE COMPLETE IN THIS ISSUE!” and credits authors such as E.E. Smith, Henry Kuttner, Benson Herbert, Oscar J. Friend, and Edmond Hamilton for featured stories. Constructed from printed paper, the reverse sides display period advertisements for consumer products such as “Foot Itch,” “Group Life Policy,” and “Lucky Strike Cigarettes.”
Condition report:
Considerable age-appropriate wear, including creasing, toning, and small tears to the covers. Spines show significant wear and handwritten date annotations. Some discoloration and minor losses consistent with age and handling.
