Description
This vintage pulp magazine, identified as “Weird Tales,” is the May 1940 issue from its 18th Year of Publication. The vibrant, dramatic cover art features a bare-chested muscular man with a dagger, alongside a scantily clad woman draped in red fabric, and a kneeling, bound woman in a blue top and shorts, characteristic of early science fiction or fantasy genres. The cover promotes “A STRANGE TALE OF THE FUTURE BY SEABURY QUINN,” and lists other authors including Robert E. Howard, Edmond Hamilton, Jack Williamson, and Henry Kuttner. It is advertised as “The No. 1 magazine of BIZARRE and UNUSUAL Stories.” The reverse side is an advertisement for a book titled “The Moon Terror by A. G. Birch,” offered as a “Special Bargain Offer” for “Only Fifty Cents,” detailing other included stories and providing an order form from “WEIRD TALES, Book Dept., 9 Rockefeller Plaza, New York 20, N. Y., U. S. A.”
