Description
The lot comprises two boxed "OFFICIAL POPEYE PIPE" novelty toys, each marked "59¢", "IT LITES", and "IT TOOTS." The cardboard packaging features Popeye’s image and states "PUSH BUTTON — LOOKS LIKE REAL TOBACCO BURNING" and "© 1958 KING FEATURES SYNDICATE, INC." The boxes are designed in red, yellow, and blue. Visible within the packaging for each pipe is the interior housing for "MICRO-LITE" Model No. 147C, presumably for batteries.
The third item is an opened, large format paper craft kit titled "HINGEES BRING POPEYE AND HIS GANG TO LIFE, " originally priced at "10¢." This kit is dated "© 1937, 1957, King Features Syndicate, Inc." and marked "PRINTED IN U.S.A. FOR MARTIN BROS. CO. CHICAGO." Instructions on the reverse detail "HOW TO ASSEMBLE YOUR HINGEE COMIC CHARACTERS" and list "12 OF YOUR FAVORITE COMICS." The kit promises "3-DIMENSIONAL ACTION FIGURES IN FULL COLOR" and "NO CUTTING NO PASTING EASY TO ASSEMBLE."
Condition report:
The two \"OFFICIAL POPEYE PIPE\" novelty toys are largely unopened but show creasing and shelf wear to their cardboard packaging. The \"HINGEES BRING POPEYE AND HIS GANG TO LIFE\" paper craft kit is opened, made of discolored and creased cardstock, with some of the character pieces partially or fully punched out.
