Description

This lot comprises two mid-20th century American print magazines. The first is *The Saturday Evening Post*, dated April 27, 1940, featuring a cover by Norman Rockwell titled ‘The Census Taker’ depicting a man holding a “U.S. Census” briefcase and umbrella, surrounded by women. The issue advertises “BEGINNING REAP THE WILD WIND By THELMA STRABEL” and its back cover displays an advertisement for “WHEATIES Breakfast of Champions” featuring Jimmy Foxx. The second magazine is *Collier’s*, dated October 26, 1956, which prominently features “THE NEGRO IN AMERICA TODAY” as its main cover story, credited to “ALAN PATON Author of ‘CRY, THE BELOVED COUNTRY’.” Additional articles include “Why Ted Williams Will Never Be Our Friend” and “We Fished Out the Missing Sardines.” Its back cover shows an advertisement for “Camel’s” cigarettes. A yellow sticky note marked “76” is present at the bottom of the image.
