This collection of modern age comic books and related media features a diverse range of independent and mainstream titles from the late 1990s through the early 2020s. A significant portion of the lot consists of Aardvark-Vanaheim publications associated with Dave Sim’s Cerebus the Aardvark, including parody issues and the Cerebus in Hell? series. Notable titles include The Amazing Cerebus number 300 (Special 41st Anniversary Issue), Vark Wars: Empire Strikes Back number 1, and several Cerebus in Hell? entries: The LGBTQ Etc People number 1, Codpiece number 1, The Undateable Cerebus number 1, Green Dante / Green Virgin number 1, and Tales of Sophistication number 1. Additional Aardvark-Vanaheim titles include Strangers in Cerebus number 1, Batvark: Coronavirus number 1, and Super Cerebus vs. Covid-19 number 1. Supplemental material includes the Cerebus World Tour Book 1995 and Cerebus Companion number 2. The collection features the complete five-issue miniseries Just a Pilgrim by Garth Ennis and Carlos Ezquerra, published by Black Bull Comics in 2001. Marvel Comics representation includes The Amazing Spider-Man number 35 (legacy number 476) by J. Michael Straczynski and John Romita Jr., and Peter Parker: Spider-Man number 36 by Paul Jenkins and Johnson/Faucher, which is the noted black cover tribute issue following the events of September 11, 2001. Other items include Edge numbers 1, 2, and 3 by Steven Grant and Gil Kane (Malibu Comics, Bravura imprint), DC Comics Super Adventures Animation number 1 featuring Superman, and Joe Chiappetta’s Silly Daddy number 11. All items are standard formatted comic books with color printed covers and interiors.
Condition report:
The comic books generally range from Very Fine (VF) to Near Mint (NM) condition. Several issues, including the Spider-Man and Edge titles, are preserved in individual protective polybags with backing boards. Some unbagged issues exhibit minor corner wear and light spine stress consistent with careful handling. A visible diagonal crease is present on the top-right corner of the cover for Tales of Sophistication number 1. The lot has not been professionally graded.
