This lot features two DC Comics reprint editions of historically significant issues from the Action Comics series.
The first item is a reprint of Action Comics No. 1, originally dated June 1938 and published in 1988 for Superman’s 50th anniversary. The front cover displays the original cover art by Joe Shuster, a 50-cent cover price, and a silver-toned FIFTY YEARS Superman shield logo in the lower-left corner. The back cover features a full-page illustration of Superman against a yellow background. This comic reprints the first appearance of Superman.
The second item is a Silver Age Classics edition of Action Comics No. 252, originally dated May 1959. This reprint features a silver-flecked border design and reprints the first appearances of Supergirl and Metallo. The cover lists prices of $1.00 US, $1.25 CAN, and 60p UK. The back cover contains a period advertisement for the Smash TV video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) bearing a 1990 copyright. Both items are raw, ungraded issues.
Condition report:
Both comics are in very good to fine raw condition. Action Comics No. 1 displays minor shelf wear and light stress marks along the spine. Action Comics No. 252 shows minor spine ticks and light edge wear. The covers of both issues retain their original colors and finish. No significant creases or tears are visible from the exterior.
