This lot consists of four vintage comic books from the 1984 Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars twelve-issue limited series published by Marvel Comics Group. The group includes Issue 1 (May 1984), Issue 4 (August 1984), Issue 6 (October 1984), and Issue 8 (December 1984). Issue 1 and Issue 8 feature cover art by Mike Zeck and John Beatty. Issue 8 is a major key issue featuring the origin and first chronological appearance of Spider-Man’s black symbiote costume. Issue 4 and Issue 6 feature cover art by Bob Layton, with the cover of Issue 4 famously depicting the Hulk supporting a mountain. All four issues are standard direct market editions, distinguished by the Spider-Man head illustration located in the UPC barcode box on the bottom right of the covers. The comics are individually presented in protective plastic sleeves with white backing boards.
Condition report:
The comic books are in uncertified raw condition and generally present as mid-grade to high-mid-grade copies. Issue 1 shows moderate spine stress with color-breaking creases and minor blunting at the corners. Issue 4 exhibits a diagonal crease, wear along the top edge, and visible spine stress marks. Issue 6 shows light spine stress and minor corner wear. Issue 8 shows spine stress and minor surface wear. There is no evidence of cover detachment or significant interior damage visible from the exterior inspection.
