Description
BID PER WHAT YOU SEE IN THE PHOTO, NOT THE AI GENERATED TITLES AND DESCRIPTIONS! A Collection of 19th and 20th Century Children’s Books and Educational Pamphlets (DJ)
This lot consists of a collection of 19th-century and 20th-century children’s books and educational ephemera. The grouping includes multiple octavo volumes from My Uncle Toby’s Library, specifically Redbrook; Or, Who’ll Buy My Water Cresses? and The Runaway; Or, Pride Punished. Both titles were authored by Francis Forrester, Esq. (pseudonym for Daniel Wise) and published by Brown, Taggard and Chase, Boston, in 1858. These volumes are bound in red publisher’s cloth with blind-stamped decorative boards and gilt-ornamented spines. Internal pages include contemporary advertisements for Chandler’s Paper Dolls and Rollo’s Tour in Europe. Also present is a hardcover edition of Mighty Magic: An Almost-True Story of Pirates and Indians by Selden M. Loring, with illustrations by Glen Rounds, published by Holiday House, New York. This volume retains its original illustrated dust jacket. The collection is completed by two illustrated paper pamphlets: The American Indian: His Life and Customs, and Extension Bulletin 286: List of Selected Readings on Marriage and Family Relations, compiled by Judson T. Landis for the Michigan State College Cooperative Extension Service, East Lansing.
Condition report:
The 1858 volumes are in fair to poor condition, exhibiting significant chipping and loss to the cloth on the spines, frayed corners, and internal foxing. The dust jacket for Mighty Magic shows heavy wear with notable edge tears, creases, and staining. The pamphlets show moderate surface wear, edge toning, and minor creasing consistent with age and use.
