This lot comprises three disparate framed items. The first is a feather art collage depicting a multi-colored parrot on a flowering branch, rendered with dyed feathers on a black ground, housed in a heavily carved dark wood frame with radial and foliate motifs. The second item is a triptych of three French Art Deco style postcards or illustrations on paper, featuring stylized female figures with color accents. Two of the illustrations bear the signature Rene Shape. The cards are inscribed with the holiday greetings Heureuses Paques and Joyeuses Paques. The framing for this piece includes a label on the verso for Holt Art Store, Tacoma, along with a Mexican postage stamp and a stamp for Mexico Curios. The third item is a framed front page from Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper, dated March 9, 1861. The page features a central engraved portrait of Jefferson Davis, President of the Southern Confederacy, and is marked Reissue at the top. The reverse of the newspaper page, visible through the frame, contains various period advertisements for products such as Bellingham’s Stimulating Onguent and Grover and Baker’s Sewing Machines.
Condition report:
The feather art and its carved frame show minor surface wear consistent with age. The Art Deco postcard triptych displays significant foxing and staining on the matting; the frame\'s backing paper is partially torn, and the frame shows light scuffing. The newspaper page exhibits expected toning, horizontal and vertical creasing, and minor edge wear consistent with a reissue print; it is housed in a modern black frame in good condition.
