This comprehensive assortment of University of Notre Dame football memorabilia features a variety of autographed photographs, magazine covers, and clippings spanning several decades of the program history. The collection includes signatures from three Heisman Trophy winners: Johnny Lattner (1953), John Huarte (1964), and Tim Brown (1987). Lattner is represented by a signed 8 by 10 inch black and white photograph and a signed Time magazine cover dated November 9, 1953. Huarte’s signature appears on an 8 by 10 inch black and white photograph. Tim Brown is featured on a large color action photograph which includes a Steiner Sports hologram and a matching signing ticket from a 2013 sports card show.
The collection also includes signatures from several prominent head coaches. Ara Parseghian signed an 8 by 10 inch black and white photograph. Brian Kelly is featured on a color photograph with the Play Like A Champion Today sign. Gerry Faust is represented by a signed Sports Illustrated clipping and a handwritten two-page letter addressed to Nick, dated January 9, 2008.
Additional notable player signatures include a dual-signed action photograph by Jerome Bettis and Rick Mirer with a Steiner Sports hologram, and a signed color action photograph of Tony Rice, also featuring a Steiner Sports hologram. Ron Powlus signed a September 23, 1996, Sports Illustrated cover and an Overall MVP card. Other signed items feature Tom Zbikowski, Shane Walton, Mike McCoy, Joe Theismann on a 1970 team photo clipping, and Qadry Ismail on a magazine page. Many of the items include personalized inscriptions to Nick or Zachary.
Standard photographs measure 8 by 10 inches.
Provenance / Authentication Note: This item originates from a single-owner collection assembled by a dedicated sports fan (with a strong focus on Notre Dame and New York Yankees memorabilia). The collector actively pursued autographs over many years through in-person events, including games, autograph shows, and visits to National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum during player events, as well as through direct mail requests to athletes and celebrities. The collection included supporting material such as handwritten correspondence sent to athletes (in some cases with payment enclosed), along with photographs of the collector with various signers. A portion of this same collection was featured in our March 21st auction, where multiple items were authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA). In regards to any items with signature(s): While this specific item(s) may not be individually submitted for third-party authentication, it originates from the same collection and shows consistency with previously authenticated pieces. As with many large autograph collections, there may be a small number of facsimile or clubhouse-style signatures present, but for the most part we have seen AUTHENTIC SIGNATURES within the collection. Based on the overall provenance and our review, we maintain a strong level of confidence in the authenticity of most items. Bidders are encouraged to review all photos carefully and bid according to their own level of comfort. No additional authentication documentation is included unless visible within the lot photos. The items in this collection are in varied condition. The professionally printed photographs generally appear well-preserved with sharp edges. The magazine covers and paper clippings exhibit minor edge wear, light creasing, and typical signs of handling consistent with their age. Several items feature personalized inscriptions.
