Description
BID PER WHAT YOU SEE IN THE PHOTO, NOT THE AI GENERATED TITLES AND DESCRIPTIONS! An Assortment of Vintage and Modern Hockey Trading Cards Including Multiple Unauthenticated Autographed Examples
This lot consists of an extensive collection of hockey trading cards spanning from the 1970s to the early 1990s. The collection features several key cards housed in protective top-loader sleeves, each bearing an unauthenticated signature. These include a 1970-71 Topps Pat Stapleton (No. 81) in a Chicago Black Hawks uniform, a 1979-80 Topps Bobby Clarke (No. 10) for the Philadelphia Flyers, a 1979-80 Topps Don Maloney (No. 168) representing the New York Rangers, and a 1989-90 Topps Patrick Roy All Star card (No. 2) for the Montreal Canadiens. Modern signed cards include a group of three 1993 Classic Hockey Draft Up Close and Personal cards of Manon Rheaume and five 1993 Classic Hockey Draft cards featuring Cammi Granato. The lot is further comprised of a large cardboard box containing several hundred additional cards, many of which are individually stored in soft penny sleeves. Visible brands and sets within this bulk portion include Topps, 1990-91 Score, and various inserts such as Franchise and Convention cards. Manufacturers represented include Topps, Score, and Classic.
Provenance / Authentication Note: This item originates from a single-owner collection assembled by a dedicated sports fan (with a strong focus on Notre Dame and New York Yankees memorabilia). The collector actively pursued autographs over many years through in-person events, including games, autograph shows, and visits to National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum during player events, as well as through direct mail requests to athletes and celebrities. The collection included supporting material such as handwritten correspondence sent to athletes (in some cases with payment enclosed), along with photographs of the collector with various signers. A portion of this same collection was featured in our March 21st auction, where multiple items were authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA). In regards to any items with signature(s): While this specific item(s) may not be individually submitted for third-party authentication, it originates from the same collection and shows consistency with previously authenticated pieces. As with many large autograph collections, there may be a small number of facsimile or clubhouse-style signatures present, but for the most part we have seen AUTHENTIC SIGNATURES within the collection. Based on the overall provenance and our review, we maintain a strong level of confidence in the authenticity of most items. Bidders are encouraged to review all photos carefully and bid according to their own level of comfort. No additional authentication documentation is included unless visible within the lot photos. Please reach out with any questions.
Condition report:
The cards are in ungraded condition. Vintage Topps cards from the 1970s show typical signs of age, including softened corners and slight edge wear. Cards from the 1980s and 1990s generally appear to be in good to excellent condition within their protective holders. Centering varies throughout the collection. The large box of loose and soft-sleeved cards is sold as-is and may contain examples with varying degrees of surface, edge, or corner wear. All signatures are unauthenticated and are sold as-is.
