A trio of vintage Topps baseball cards featuring Hall of Fame players. The group includes a 1960 Topps Ed Mathews card (number 420) depicting the Milwaukee Braves third baseman, a 1965 Topps Mickey Mantle card (number 350) depicting the New York Yankees outfielder, and a 1975 Topps Hank Aaron card (number 660) depicting the Milwaukee Brewers designated hitter. Each card is a standard base issue and is housed in a clear protective sleeve. The reverse sides of the cards provide biographical information and professional statistics. The 1960 Mathews card reverse includes a cartoon and season highlights. The 1965 Mantle reverse details his 1964 World Series home run record. The 1975 Aaron reverse lists his full career statistics from 1954 to 1974.
Provenance / Authentication Note: This item originates from a single-owner collection assembled by a dedicated sports fan (with a strong focus on Notre Dame and New York Yankees memorabilia). The collector actively pursued autographs over many years through in-person events, including games, autograph shows, and visits to National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum during player events, as well as through direct mail requests to athletes and celebrities. The collection included supporting material such as handwritten correspondence sent to athletes (in some cases with payment enclosed), along with photographs of the collector with various signers. A portion of this same collection was featured in our March 21st auction, where multiple items were authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA). In regards to any items with signature(s): While this specific item(s) may not be individually submitted for third-party authentication, it originates from the same collection and shows consistency with previously authenticated pieces. As with many large autograph collections, there may be a small number of facsimile or clubhouse-style signatures present, but for the most part we have seen AUTHENTIC SIGNATURES within the collection. Based on the overall provenance and our review, we maintain a strong level of confidence in the authenticity of most items. Bidders are encouraged to review all photos carefully and bid according to their own level of comfort. No additional authentication documentation is included unless visible within the lot photos. Please reach out with any questions.
Condition report:
All three cards are in raw, ungraded condition with significant wear. The 1960 Ed Mathews card is off-center toward the left, has heavy rounding on all corners, and a horizontal surface crease running through the center. The 1965 Mickey Mantle card exhibits heavy corner rounding with paper loss at the top right, frayed edges, and multiple severe creases including vertical and diagonal lines. The 1975 Hank Aaron card shows moderate corner rounding, edge chipping along the bottom orange border, and heavy surface scuffing or print snowing over the central image.
