Duke and Duchess of Windsor and 1939 World’s Fair, Three Vintage Photographs This lot features three distinct historical black-and-white photographs documenting mid-century celebrity, entertainment, and cultural events. The primary highlight is an original vintage press photograph of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor (Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson) seated with French dancer Ludmilla Tcherina at an international benefit show for UNICEF. This event took place at the Alhambra Theater in Paris on December 1, 1966. The photograph retains its original provenance with a typed Wide World Photo caption sheet (Reference D-7808) adhered to the reverse. Also included is a promotional photograph sheet for Charlotte’s Chimps, depicting various performing chimpanzees in circus-style costumes and acts such as tightrope walking. Condition report:
The Duke and Duchess of Windsor press photo is in excellent vintage condition with clear contrast and very minor curling to the paper. The Charlotte’s Chimps promotional sheet is in good vintage condition with slight natural curling at the edges. The 1939 World’s Fair photograph is in fair to good vintage condition, exhibiting age-related toning, minor foxing, and light wear consistent with its age of over 80 years.
