This is a vintage Kool-Aire model beverage cooler and dispenser manufactured by the Steel City Manufacturing Company of Youngstown, Ohio. The unit features a cylindrical body constructed of steel with a pale green or off-white painted finish. The top is designed with a two-piece split lid featuring a central circular opening lined with a black rubber gasket, intended to secure an inverted glass liquid bottle. The front of the unit is equipped with a dispensing tap featuring a black plastic or bakelite pull-down handle. Positioned to the left of the tap is a threaded metal drainage or secondary fill cap secured to the body by a small metal chain. The interior and the base of the unit exhibit a galvanized metal finish with a visible spangled pattern. A metal identification plate is riveted to the front of the body, featuring the Kool-Aire logo with icicle graphics, patent information including Design Pat. D-U.S. Pat. Off. and other patents pending, the manufacturer name and location, and the stamped serial number A 21097.
Condition report:
The item is in used vintage condition. There is visible wear to the exterior paint finish including scattered chips, scratches, and areas of surface oxidation, most notably along the top rim and bottom edge. The black rubber gasket in the top opening shows significant age-related cracking and deterioration. The interior and galvanized base exhibit wear and discoloration consistent with liquid storage and long-term use. The dispensing tap and the chained metal cap are present.
