This collection consists of 14 pieces of baseball memorabilia, featuring 13 hand-signed photographs and cards from various eras of Major League Baseball history. The centerpiece of the lot is a black and white 8×10 inch photograph signed by Don Larsen, capturing the final pitch of his 1956 World Series perfect game, inscribed with WS PG – 10.8.56 in blue felt-tip marker. Other notable autographs include Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Feller on a black and white action photograph and a unique ten-frame fielding sequence photograph signed by one-armed outfielder Pete Gray.
The assortment includes several players in various team uniforms: Maury Wills (Los Angeles Dodgers, inscribed with jersey number 30), Allie Reynolds (New York Yankees), Joe Garagiola (St. Louis Cardinals), Bobby Shantz (Houston Colt .45s), Al Gionfriddo (Houston Colt .45s), Brandon Lyon (Arizona Diamondbacks), Kevin Reese (New York Yankees), and Nellie King (Pittsburgh Pirates). The lot also contains a signed Joe Ostrowski New York Yankees portrait card and a personalized Elden Auker card inscribed To Aimee. Several items, including those signed by Shantz and Gionfriddo, feature official Major League Baseball (MLB) authentication holograms. The Kevin Reese photograph includes promotional logos for Nasser Limousine, Pinstripes Foundation, and Mohegan Sun Pocono. A small newsprint clipping titled Sports people: Ex-pitcher twirls complete memoirs regarding Joe Garagiola completes the 14-piece lot. Most signatures are executed in blue felt-tip marker or blue ink.
Provenance / Authentication Note: This item originates from a single-owner collection assembled by a dedicated sports fan (with a strong focus on Notre Dame and New York Yankees memorabilia). The collector actively pursued autographs over many years through in-person events, including games, autograph shows, and visits to National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum during player events, as well as through direct mail requests to athletes and celebrities. The collection included supporting material such as handwritten correspondence sent to athletes (in some cases with payment enclosed), along with photographs of the collector with various signers. A portion of this same collection was featured in our March 21st auction, where multiple items were authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA). In regards to any items with signature(s): While this specific item(s) may not be individually submitted for third-party authentication, it originates from the same collection and shows consistency with previously authenticated pieces. As with many large autograph collections, there may be a small number of facsimile or clubhouse-style signatures present, but for the most part we have seen AUTHENTIC SIGNATURES within the collection. Based on the overall provenance and our review, we maintain a strong level of confidence in the authenticity of most items. Bidders are encouraged to review all photos carefully and bid according to their own level of comfort. No additional authentication documentation is included unless visible within the lot photos. Condition report:
The collection is in good to very good condition overall. The photographs and cards show typical light handling wear such as minor corner softening or slight edge rubbing consistent with autographed memorabilia. Signatures generally appear bold, clear, and well-preserved. There are no major tears, heavy creasing, or significant staining visible on the items.
