Description

A vintage late-1940s cardboard easel-back counter display advertising sign for Hull’s Beer of New Haven, Connecticut, featuring baseball player Frank Spec Shea. The sign is constructed of thick cardboard with a printed paper front graphic and features an unused fold-out cardboard easel on the reverse. The graphic design features a circular black-and-white portrait of Shea alongside a printed facsimile signature reading Frank Spec Shea and the text BASEBALL’S ROOKIE PITCHER OF THE YEAR. The left side features a blue diagonal banner with the text CONNECTICUT FAVORITES in white block letters. The right side features bold black text reading HULL’S FAMOUS BEER and THE OLD FAVORITE OF SPORTING FANS. Condition report:
The sign is currently preserved in tight plastic wrapping. It exhibits minor age-toning and browning to the cardboard on the reverse, which is typical for paper and cardboard items of this era. The fold-out easel stand remains intact and unused. The graphic colors on the front face remain bright and clear with no significant fading, staining, or structural creasing visible under the wrapping.
