A team-signed baseball from the Washington Senators, dating to approximately 1965. The ball is constructed of off-white leather with red stitching and contains approximately 26 signatures rendered in blue ink across various panels. The signature of manager Gil Hodges is positioned on the sweet spot. The ball includes signatures from coaches Ed Yost and George Susce, as well as broadcaster Shelby Whitfield. Identified player signatures include Ed Brinkman, Ken McMullen, Don Lock, Pete Richert, Mike McCormick, Ronnie Kline, Fred Valentine, John Orsino, Frank Kreutzer, Bob Saverine, Robert Chance, Dick Nen, Joe Cunningham, Joe Ignatowski, Jim King, Buster Narum, Steve Ridzik, Jim Duckworth, Joe McCabe, Don Blasingame, and Mike Brumley. The item is accompanied by a yellow adhesive note identifying the team.
Provenance / Authentication Note: This item originates from a single-owner collection assembled by a dedicated sports fan (with a strong focus on Notre Dame and New York Yankees memorabilia). The collector actively pursued autographs over many years through in-person events, including games, autograph shows, and visits to National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum during player events, as well as through direct mail requests to athletes and celebrities. The collection included supporting material such as handwritten correspondence sent to athletes (in some cases with payment enclosed), along with photographs of the collector with various signers. A portion of this same collection was featured in our March 21st auction, where multiple items were authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA). Based on the overall provenance and our review, we maintain a strong level of confidence in the authenticity of most items. Condition report:
The baseball exhibits natural age-related toning and surface scuffing across the leather. The signatures remain legible but show light fading and minor ink bleeding consistent with the age of the item. No third-party authentication stickers or certificates are present.
