BID PER WHAT YOU SEE IN THE PHOTO, NOT THE AI GENERATED TITLES AND DESCRIPTIONS! A Collection of Vintage Topps Baseball Trading Cards Featuring Hall of Fame Stars and Rookies
This collection consists of approximately 50 baseball trading cards, primarily manufactured by Topps, dating from the mid-1950s through the mid-1980s. The lot includes several notable rookie cards, specifically a 1979 Topps Ozzie Smith #116, a 1985 Topps Kirby Puckett #236, and a 1977 Topps Rookie Outfielders #492 featuring Jack Clark. The collection features a significant array of Hall of Fame players and major stars, including a 1973 Topps Roberto Clemente #50, a 1975 Topps Brooks Robinson #50, a 1977 Topps Nolan Ryan #20, a 1977 Topps Pete Rose #450, and multiple cards of Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, and Rod Carew. Five cards are presented in hard-plastic protective cases and bear hand-signed signatures: a 1954 Topps Harry Dorish #116, a 1956 Topps Nelson King #47, a 1962 Topps Jim Piersall #415, a 1977 Topps Joe Torre #455, and a Bobby Doerr modern commemorative card. These autographs are unauthenticated and lack certificates of authenticity. Additionally, the collection contains a group of black-and-white modern commemorative cards of historical figures including Christy Mathewson, Bucky Harris, Hugh Jennings, and Ed Walsh.
Provenance / Authentication Note: This item originates from a single-owner collection assembled by a dedicated sports fan (with a strong focus on Notre Dame and New York Yankees memorabilia). The collector actively pursued autographs over many years through in-person events, including games, autograph shows, and visits to National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum during player events, as well as through direct mail requests to athletes and celebrities. The collection included supporting material such as handwritten correspondence sent to athletes (in some cases with payment enclosed), along with photographs of the collector with various signers. A portion of this same collection was featured in our March 21st auction, where multiple items were authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA). In regards to any items with signature(s): While this specific item(s) may not be individually submitted for third-party authentication, it originates from the same collection and shows consistency with previously authenticated pieces. As with many large autograph collections, there may be a small number of facsimile or clubhouse-style signatures present, but for the most part we have seen AUTHENTIC SIGNATURES within the collection. Based on the overall provenance and our review, we maintain a strong level of confidence in the authenticity of most items. Bidders are encouraged to review all photos carefully and bid according to their own level of comfort. No additional authentication documentation is included unless visible within the lot photos. Condition report:
The cards are in ungraded condition and exhibit varying degrees of wear consistent with their age. The vintage cards from the 1950s and 1960s show typical signs of handling, including softened corners, minor surface marks, and edge wear. Cards from the 1970s and 1980s are generally in good to very good condition, although centering varies across the collection. The cards are housed in a mix of protective holders, including hard-plastic cases, top-loaders, and semi-rigid sleeves. Hand-signed signatures are unverified and have not undergone third-party authentication.
