This collection features approximately 21 autographed baseball cards representing a diverse history of the sport, including Major League Baseball (MLB), the Negro Leagues, and the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (A-A GPBL). The MLB component includes signatures from Hall of Fame members Monte Irvin (Action Packed series), Tony Perez (1983 Topps #340), and Andre Dawson (1982 Topps #700). Additional MLB autographs include Al Kaline (commemorative reprint), Bill Madlock (1985 Topps #355), Sal Bando (1974 Topps #255 and 1982 Topps #495), Paul Blair (1974 Topps #520), Grant Jackson (1980 Topps #645), Don Zimmer (1991 Topps #338), Joe Grzenda (1971 Topps #392), Joe Nuxhall (memorial issue), and Rick Schu (10th Anniversary All-Time Team).
The collection features significant Negro League representation with autographed cards of Buck O’Neil (Negro League Baseball Stars), Mamie Peanut Johnson (Indianapolis Clowns), and Jim Zapp (Negro League Baseball Stars). The A-A GPBL segment includes four autographed Fritsch Series cards of Sarah Jane Salty Sands, Jeanie Marlowe (dated 1948-1954), Joanne McComb, and Joyce Steele, each featuring personalized inscriptions to Nick. Signatures are executed in various blue and black inks. Also included is a sealed circa 1999 Upper Deck Power Up! lenticular card of Tom Glavine (#10) and an assortment of small-format Great Moments in Baseball and Baseball Trivia novelty inserts. These autographs have not been authenticated by a third-party service.
Provenance / Authentication Note: This item originates from a single-owner collection assembled by a dedicated sports fan (with a strong focus on Notre Dame and New York Yankees memorabilia). The collector actively pursued autographs over many years through in-person events, including games, autograph shows, and visits to National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum during player events, as well as through direct mail requests to athletes and celebrities. The collection included supporting material such as handwritten correspondence sent to athletes (in some cases with payment enclosed), along with photographs of the collector with various signers. A portion of this same collection was featured in our March 21st auction, where multiple items were authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA). In regards to any items with signature(s): While this specific item(s) may not be individually submitted for third-party authentication, it originates from the same collection and shows consistency with previously authenticated pieces. As with many large autograph collections, there may be a small number of facsimile or clubhouse-style signatures present, but for the most part we have seen AUTHENTIC SIGNATURES within the collection. Based on the overall provenance and our review, we maintain a strong level of confidence in the authenticity of most items. Bidders are encouraged to review all photos carefully and bid according to their own level of comfort. No additional authentication documentation is included unless visible within the lot photos. Condition report:
The cards are in raw, ungraded condition, ranging generally from Excellent to Near Mint. Typical age-related wear is present on vintage issues, including corner softening and edge wear on the 1971 and 1974 Topps cards. The 1971 Joe Grzenda card shows characteristic chipping on the black borders. The 1974 Paul Blair card exhibits moderate corner wear. The Tom Glavine lenticular card remains in its original unopened plastic sleeve.
