Description
BID PER WHAT YOU SEE IN THE PHOTO, NOT THE AI GENERATED TITLES AND DESCRIPTIONS! A mid-20th-century personal scrapbook and photo album documenting the career and personal life of the vocal group Hi-Lo-Jack and the Dame. The item is contained within a Snaps and Scraps brand string-bound binder with a textured cream cover featuring a debossed illustration of a sailing ship and timber-framed building. The handwritten title page in white ink on black paper reads The Lives and Loves of Hi-Lo-Jack and THE Dame 1947. Contents include numerous black and white promotional and candid photographs, several with handwritten captions such as THE DENTYNE SMILE – DENVER and Isnt He Cute?. Included ephemera consists of newspaper clippings by Harold V. Cohen for the Drama Desk, promotional handbills for The Frontier in Denver, Club Norman, and the Ron Roi Supper Club, and a mailing envelope postmarked November 1947 addressed to the group at the RKO Building in New York City. Also included are a 1946 traffic court summons from Baltimore, a 1947 traffic violation notice from Washington D.C., and an original pen-and-ink abstract sketch titled Jims Master Piece.
Condition report:
The binder shows significant wear, including heavy chipping and loss to the edges of the covers. Internal black mounting pages and newsprint pages are brittle with frequent tearing, chipping, and detached leaves. Visible yellowing, foxing, and old adhesive stains are present throughout. Some ephemera items show creasing and old tape residue.
