This collection consists of eleven original 1980 Topps baseball cards. The group includes several Hall of Fame players and notable rookie cards. Featured cards are card number 160 Jim Palmer (Baltimore Orioles), card number 230 Reggie Jackson (New York Yankees), card number 290 Dave Stieb (Toronto Blue Jays) rookie card, card number 335 Rick Sutcliffe (Los Angeles Dodgers), card number 70 Gary Carter (Montreal Expos), card number 540 George Brett All-Star (Kansas City Royals), card number 350 Rod Carew All-Star (California Angels), card number 270 Carl Yastrzemski All-Star (Boston Red Sox), card number 2 1979 Runs Batted In Leaders featuring Don Baylor and Dave Winfield, card number 661 Mets Future Stars rookie card featuring Mike Scott, Jesse Orosco, and Dan Norman, and card number 550 Willie McCovey (San Francisco Giants). Each card is housed in a protective individual holder, including top-loaders and screw-down cases. The cards feature the distinct 1980 Topps design with team names in colored banners and facsimile signatures.
Provenance / Authentication Note: This item originates from a single-owner collection assembled by a dedicated sports fan (with a strong focus on Notre Dame and New York Yankees memorabilia). The collector actively pursued autographs over many years through in-person events, including games, autograph shows, and visits to National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum during player events, as well as through direct mail requests to athletes and celebrities. The collection included supporting material such as handwritten correspondence sent to athletes (in some cases with payment enclosed), along with photographs of the collector with various signers. A portion of this same collection was featured in our March 21st auction, where multiple items were authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA). In regards to any items with signature(s): While this specific item(s) may not be individually submitted for third-party authentication, it originates from the same collection and shows consistency with previously authenticated pieces. As with many large autograph collections, there may be a small number of facsimile or clubhouse-style signatures present, but for the most part we have seen AUTHENTIC SIGNATURES within the collection. Based on the overall provenance and our review, we maintain a strong level of confidence in the authenticity of most items. Bidders are encouraged to review all photos carefully and bid according to their own level of comfort. No additional authentication documentation is included unless visible within the lot photos. Condition report:
The cards are in raw, ungraded condition. Overall condition ranges from Excellent (EX) to Near Mint (NM). Corners generally appear sharp and colors remain bright. Centering varies throughout the lot, with some cards shifted toward the edges. Minor edge whitening is visible on the bottom right corner of the Willie McCovey card. No significant creases or surface damage are apparent through the protective holders.
