BID PER WHAT YOU SEE IN THE PHOTO, NOT THE AI GENERATED TITLES AND DESCRIPTIONS! A Collection of Antique Postcards and an Autographed Paul W. Tibbets Commemorative Aviation Cover
This collection includes a group of early 20th-century postcards and a documented autographed commemorative aviation cover. The primary item is a philatelic commemorative cover celebrating the introduction of the Boeing B-29, renamed The Washington I, to the Royal Air Force on March 22, 1950. The cover commemorates a flight of the B-29 Superfortress FIFI. It is hand-signed in black ink by Brigadier General Paul W. Tibbets, the pilot of the Enola Gay. The cover features a Richmond, Virginia, postmark dated June 23 and a United States Airmail Pioneer Pilot postage stamp. It is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from Chaucer Auctions, an AFTAL approved dealer, which notes that the item is a rare variety containing additional signatures from United States fighter aces James Rigg, Tex Hill, and Blake Morganville.
The collection features a set of two George Washington themed postcards from approximately 1908 to 1910. One card depicts Washington and his troops titled Washington On His Way To Trenton with a printed signature by artist P. Veenfliet and a 1908 copyright for S. Garre. The reverse shows a Baltimore, Maryland, postmark from 1910 and a green one-cent Benjamin Franklin stamp. The second card features an oval portrait of Washington on a white horse with the inscription First in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen. This card is postmarked from Rochester, New York, in 1910 and includes a green one-cent Benjamin Franklin stamp.
Also included is a set of two humorous photo postcards from the same period. One card is titled A Close Decision with a 1909 copyright for Roth and Langley, New York. The second is an embossed card titled A Triple Steal depicting three figures in baseball uniforms with a handwritten note on the reverse dated October 18, 1910.
Condition report:
The autographed aviation cover is in excellent condition and is stored in a protective plastic sleeve. The George Washington postcards are in good vintage condition with typical yellowing and minor corner wear. The humorous postcards are in fair to good condition, with notable foxing and spotting present on the reverse of the A Close Decision card. All postcards exhibit minor edge wear consistent with their age.
