This collection consists of eight baseballs featuring a variety of Major League Baseball player autographs and commemorative markings, with a strong emphasis on the Philadelphia Phillies. The lot includes a Philadelphia Phillies team signed ball from the late 1970s era, inscribed with signatures from Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, Tug McGraw, Larry Bowa, Greg Luzinski, Bob Boone, Gary Maddox, Tim McCarver, Jim Lonborg, and manager Danny Ozark. A multi signed ball featuring logos for Major League Baseball Players and the Caring Team of Athletes includes the signatures of Fred McGriff, Wade Boggs, Eddie Murray, Paul Molitor, Ozzie Smith, and Mike Lowell. Single signed baseballs in the group represent Robin Roberts, Sandy Alomar Senior, and Gene Schall. Another multi signed ball contains the signatures of Willie Randolph, Jim Leyland, and Roy White. A second Phillies themed multi signed ball includes Ron Reed, Jay Johnstone, Ted Sizemore, Gene Garber, and Ollie Brown. The set is completed by a Babe Ruth commemorative edition ball issued for the 100th anniversary of his birth (1895-1995), featuring a facsimile signature and printed biographical details and career statistics. The autographs are executed in various inks including black, blue, and purple. Each ball is constructed of white leather with characteristic red stitching.
Provenance / Authentication Note: This item originates from a single-owner collection assembled by a dedicated sports fan (with a strong focus on Notre Dame and New York Yankees memorabilia). The collector actively pursued autographs over many years through in-person events, including games, autograph shows, and visits to National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum during player events, as well as through direct mail requests to athletes and celebrities. The collection included supporting material such as handwritten correspondence sent to athletes (in some cases with payment enclosed), along with photographs of the collector with various signers. A portion of this same collection was featured in our March 21st auction, where multiple items were authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA). In regards to any items with signature(s): While this specific item(s) may not be individually submitted for third-party authentication, it originates from the same collection and shows consistency with previously authenticated pieces. As with many large autograph collections, there may be a small number of facsimile or clubhouse-style signatures present, but for the most part we have seen AUTHENTIC SIGNATURES within the collection. Based on the overall provenance and our review, we maintain a strong level of confidence in the authenticity of most items. Bidders are encouraged to review all photos carefully and bid according to their own level of comfort. No additional authentication documentation is included unless visible within the lot photos. Condition report:
The baseballs are in good overall condition. Several examples show light toning and natural yellowing of the leather surfaces consistent with age and storage. The clarity and boldness of the autographs vary, ranging from very distinct to moderately faded. No third party certificates of authenticity are present for the signatures in this lot.
