This collection consists of an assortment of sports memorabilia comprising autographed photographs, vintage pennants, and numerous sports reference publications and directories. The group includes several signed 8×10 inch photographs: a black and white image of Hall of Fame catcher Rick Ferrell signed in blue ink; a color photo of Alabama quarterback Richard Todd signed in blue ink; a color photo of University of Pittsburgh Head Coach Dave Wannstedt inscribed in black ink; a color photo of Athletics outfielder Elmer Valo inscribed in blue ink; a black and white photo of Syracuse coach Dick MacPherson inscribed in blue ink; and a color photo of BYU quarterback Max Hall signed in black ink. The collection features two felt pennants: one for the Baltimore Orioles containing a printed team photo and script logo, and a maroon and white pennant for Mechanicsburg High School featuring the Wildcats mascot. Reference materials include the 2012 and 2014 editions of the National Hockey League Official Guide and Record Book, 1997 and 2007 Baseball America Directories, and the 2008 ESPN Sports Almanac. Also present are autograph collector resources such as The Sport Americana Baseball Address List Number 8, the 2013 Football Address List by Harvey Meiselman, and a 2005 edition of the Ultimate Sports Address List. A Harrisburg Senators Seniors program is also included. No certificates of authenticity are present for the signatures.
Provenance / Authentication Note: This item originates from a single-owner collection assembled by a dedicated sports fan (with a strong focus on Notre Dame and New York Yankees memorabilia). The collector actively pursued autographs over many years through in-person events, including games, autograph shows, and visits to National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum during player events, as well as through direct mail requests to athletes and celebrities. The collection included supporting material such as handwritten correspondence sent to athletes (in some cases with payment enclosed), along with photographs of the collector with various signers. A portion of this same collection was featured in our March 21st auction, where multiple items were authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA). In regards to any items with signature(s): While this specific item(s) may not be individually submitted for third-party authentication, it originates from the same collection and shows consistency with previously authenticated pieces. As with many large autograph collections, there may be a small number of facsimile or clubhouse-style signatures present, but for the most part we have seen AUTHENTIC SIGNATURES within the collection. Based on the overall provenance and our review, we maintain a strong level of confidence in the authenticity of most items. Bidders are encouraged to review all photos carefully and bid according to their own level of comfort. No additional authentication documentation is included unless visible within the lot photos. Please reach out with any questions.
Condition report:
Items are in generally good to very good condition. The vintage pennants exhibit typical age-related toning and some minor creasing. Reference books and directories show evidence of light shelf wear consistent with use. Autographed photographs appear well-preserved with clear signatures and minimal surface wear.
