This group consists of four individual comic books from the short-lived New Direction line published by EC Comics (Entertaining Comics) in 1955. The collection includes issues number 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the title Extra!, which also carries the masthead title World Press Extra! on the covers. These issues are notable for their unique tabloid-style aesthetic and journalism-themed narratives. Issue No. 1 (April 1955) features the headline Body Found in Ocean off Key West and bears a promotional box on the lower left corner announcing the New Direction line; it is published without the Comics Code Authority seal. Issue No. 2 (June 1955) features the headline Seek Lost Fortune in Norwegian Treasure Hunt. Issue No. 3 (August 1955) features the headline Reporter Risks Life to Nab Racketeer. Issue No. 4 (October 1955) features an action illustration of a shipwreck. All four covers feature art attributed to Johnny Craig, with many bearing the printed credit Photo by Johnny Craig or Johnny Craig. Condition report:
The comic books are in raw, ungraded condition. Overall, the issues appear to be in mid-to-high grade with bright cover colors and relatively flat surfaces. Spines are mostly intact, showing minor stress lines and light shelf wear visible through the protective packaging. Issue No. 4 exhibits noticeable tanning and toning along the spine and the top edges of the front cover. Minor corner blunting is present on several issues. The interiors have not been inspected, and the grading assessment is based solely on the exterior cover appearance.
