This collection contains five vintage comic book adaptations of classic literary works. Included are four issues from the Classics Illustrated and Classics Illustrated Junior series published by Gilberton Company, Inc., and one issue from the Marvel Classics Comics series published by Marvel Comics Group. All comics are housed in individual protective bags with backing boards. The lot features the following titles: Classics Illustrated No. 47, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne, with a painted cover and 25 cent price point; Classics Illustrated No. 64, Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, with a painted cover and 15 cent price point; Classics Illustrated No. 85, Sea Wolf by Jack London, with a painted cover and 15 cent price point; Classics Illustrated Junior No. 555, The 3 Golden Apples, with a 15 cent price point; and Marvel Classics Comics No. 14, War of the Worlds by H.G. Condition report:
The items are in raw, ungraded condition. Classics Illustrated No. 47 shows significant spine chipping, small tears, creasing, and tanning. Treasure Island and Sea Wolf exhibit moderate spine stress and light surface creasing. The 3 Golden Apples shows minor edge wear and light creasing. War of the Worlds appears in the best condition of the group with minor spine stress and light handling wear. All issues show typical paper toning consistent with age. Covers appear attached based on visual inspection through the bags.
