BID PER WHAT YOU SEE IN THE PHOTO, NOT THE AI GENERATED TITLES AND DESCRIPTIONS! A Collection of Vintage Hockey Trading Cards and Washington Capitals Memorabilia

This lot comprises an extensive collection of professional hockey trading cards and team memorabilia. The collection features cards from several major manufacturers, including O-Pee-Chee, Upper Deck, Score, Fleer Ultra, and Parkhurst, primarily dating from the mid-1970s to the early 1990s. A primary highlight is a 1986-87 O-Pee-Chee Wayne Gretzky card number 3, which is presented in an acrylic screw-down case. The collection includes various rookie cards, notably the 1992-93 Upper Deck Teemu Selanne number 237, the 1990-91 Upper Deck Martin Brodeur number 403, and the 1990-91 Upper Deck Pavel Bure number 452. Hall of Fame players and stars such as Bobby Orr, Guy Lafleur, Patrick Roy, Sergei Fedorov, Alexander Mogilny, and Nicklas Lidstrom are also represented throughout the grouping. Included are two cards with unauthenticated signatures in black marker: a 1980-81 O-Pee-Chee Mike Ramsey number 232 and a 1990-91 Upper Deck Russ Courtnall number 47.

The memorabilia portion of the lot features a Washington Capitals Club Red 365 season-ticket member gift from the 2017-18 season. The item is a clear acrylic puck-shaped weight containing authenticated game-used ice from the Capitals’ championship season. It is etched with the National Hockey League logo, the Washington Capitals logo, and the signature of Commissioner Gary B. Bettman. This item is housed in its original red, white, and blue presentation box labeled Thank You Season-Ticket Member and includes a commemorative card from Fanatics.

Provenance / Authentication Note: This item originates from a single-owner collection assembled by a dedicated sports fan (with a strong focus on Notre Dame and New York Yankees memorabilia). The collector actively pursued autographs over many years through in-person events, including games, autograph shows, and visits to National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum during player events, as well as through direct mail requests to athletes and celebrities. The collection included supporting material such as handwritten correspondence sent to athletes (in some cases with payment enclosed), along with photographs of the collector with various signers. A portion of this same collection was featured in our March 21st auction, where multiple items were authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA). In regards to any items with signature(s): While this specific item(s) may not be individually submitted for third-party authentication, it originates from the same collection and shows consistency with previously authenticated pieces. As with many large autograph collections, there may be a small number of facsimile or clubhouse-style signatures present, but for the most part we have seen AUTHENTIC SIGNATURES within the collection. Based on the overall provenance and our review, we maintain a strong level of confidence in the authenticity of most items. Bidders are encouraged to review all photos carefully and bid according to their own level of comfort. No additional authentication documentation is included unless visible within the lot photos. Please reach out with any questions.

Condition report:

The items in this collection are in varied condition. High-profile individual cards are housed in protective acrylic cases, top-loaders, or soft sleeves. Large quantities of loose cards are included and exhibit typical signs of handling and age, such as softened corners and edge wear. None of the cards have been professionally graded by third-party services. The signatures on the Ramsey and Courtnall cards are unauthenticated. The Washington Capitals memorabilia and its original packaging appear to be in good condition with minimal visible wear.
