This collection consists of sixteen autographed 8×10 photographs featuring a variety of New York Yankees players from multiple eras, primarily spanning the 1950s through the 1980s. The lot includes a combination of color and black and white photography. Each photograph is signed in blue felt-tip marker or ink by the respective player. The players represented in the collection include Billy Martin, Ron Guidry, Ron Blomberg, Bob Turley, Bobby Shantz, Bobby Brown, Ryne Duren, Tom Henrich, Ed Lopat, Hector Lopez, Roy White, Dale Berra, Jim Coates, Jake Gibbs, Andy Kosco, and Phil Linz. Several photographs contain personal inscriptions, including Ron Blomberg referencing his status as the first designated hitter, Bob Turley noting his 1958 Cy Young Award, and Bobby Shantz providing a motivational quote.
The lot is supported by extensive authentication documentation. Included are Lifetime Certificates of Authenticity from Real McCoy 2 Collectibles for Blomberg, Gibbs, Coates, Turley, White, Lopez, Henrich, Lopat, and Martin. A COA from Names of Fame, Inc. is provided for Ron Guidry, and a COA from All Star Cards & Collectibles is provided for Andy Kosco. The collection also features personal ephemera, including a handwritten note on Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia stationery signed by Bobby Shantz and a brief handwritten note regarding the Billy Martin photograph. A COA for Tom Tresh from Real McCoy 2 Collectibles is present in the lot, although no corresponding photograph of Tresh is included in this 16 piece set.
Dimensions: 8 x 10 inches per photograph.
Provenance / Authentication Note: This item originates from a single-owner collection assembled by a dedicated sports fan (with a strong focus on Notre Dame and New York Yankees memorabilia). The collector actively pursued autographs over many years through in-person events, including games, autograph shows, and visits to National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum during player events, as well as through direct mail requests to athletes and celebrities. The collection included supporting material such as handwritten correspondence sent to athletes (in some cases with payment enclosed), along with photographs of the collector with various signers. A portion of this same collection was featured in our March 21st auction, where multiple items were authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA). In regards to any items with signature(s): While this specific item(s) may not be individually submitted for third-party authentication, it originates from the same collection and shows consistency with previously authenticated pieces. As with many large autograph collections, there may be a small number of facsimile or clubhouse-style signatures present, but for the most part we have seen AUTHENTIC SIGNATURES within the collection. Based on the overall provenance and our review, we maintain a strong level of confidence in the authenticity of most items. Bidders are encouraged to review all photos carefully and bid according to their own level of comfort. No additional authentication documentation is included unless visible within the lot photos. Please reach out with any questions.
Condition report:
The photographs are in good to very good condition overall. The color images remain vibrant and the black and white prints show crisp detail. Most items exhibit minor signs of handling at the corners and edges consistent with age and storage. The signatures are bold and clear with no significant fading or smudging observed. The accompanying documentation shows minor creasing and typical wear for paper ephemera.
