Description
BID PER WHAT YOU SEE IN THE PHOTO, NOT THE AI GENERATED TITLES AND DESCRIPTIONS! Three US Civil War Era Confederate and Obsolete Banknote Facsimiles
This lot consists of three facsimile banknotes representing currency from the American Civil War era, produced as part of a modern souvenir reproduction set. The collection includes a five-dollar note from The Cotton Planters Loan Association of the Fifth Congressional District of South Carolina, dated May 13th, 1862, serial number 415, with printed signatures for B.O. Raoul and W.M. Shannon. The reverse of this note features printed warrants for the Spartanburgh and Union Rail Road Company. The second item is a one-hundred-dollar note from the State of Alabama, dated January 1st, 1864, serial number 834, featuring vignettes of Native American figures and a decorative green-printed reverse with signatures for W. J. Greene and D. B. Graham. The third note is a five-hundred-dollar Confederate States of America issue (T-64), dated February 17th, 1864, serial number 16760, featuring a portrait of Lieutenant General T. J. Jackson and the Confederate equestrian seal. These notes are printed on paper that has been chemically treated to simulate historical parchment, a hallmark of souvenir replica sets. The serial numbers 415, 834, and 16760 are well-documented as common serial numbers used in contemporary facsimile production.
Condition report:
The notes exhibit heavy artificial toning, foxing, and staining intended to simulate historical age. The five-dollar South Carolina note has significant condition issues, including a missing upper right corner and multiple tears along the edges. All three notes show multiple heavy vertical and horizontal folds and general edge wear. The paper texture is characteristic of modern reproduction parchment.
