This diverse assortment of paper ephemera comprises approximately 40 pieces of historical, musical, and novelty interest. The collection is highlighted by a 1956 Elvis Presley magazine and a posthumous 1978 color tribute calendar. A significant component of the lot is a group of Cartes de Visite portrait cards from the mid-19th century. These cards feature formal Victorian portraits and bear several notable photographer marks on the reverse, including J. W. Black of Boston, Anson of New York, Estabrooke of New York, Collins of Portland, Maine, and J. J. Hawes of Boston. One card by Baird and Jessup includes a period-appropriate blue 2-cent internal revenue stamp and handwritten identification. The collection also includes a set of mid-century novelty die-cut postcards from the Komic Kard series, some of which are marked Made in Japan. These postcards feature humorous, era-specific cartoons. Additionally, the lot contains modern reference prints of historical airships and Zeppelins dated 2009, contemporary stereoview cards of various landscapes, handmade cardboard stereoviewers with historical scenes, and several vintage film negatives showing cats and early 20th-century street scenes with storefront signage.
Condition report:
The condition of the lot ranges from fair to very good. The 1956 Elvis Presley magazine shows age-related edge wear, creasing, and a small tear at the top right of the front cover. The 19th century Cartes de Visite exhibit typical toning, minor foxing, and handling wear consistent with their age. The vintage film negatives show mixed condition with visible silver mirroring and emulsion loss at the edges. Modern airship prints and stereoscopic cards are in excellent condition. Novelty postcards show light toning and minor corner wear.
