This collection includes five vintage DC Comics war-themed issues dating from 1973 to 1981. The lot contains two copies of Four-Star Battle Tales No. 1 (March 1973), which is the premier issue of the series. These copies feature Johnny Cloud, the Navajo Ace, in the story Be Brave– Be Silent!, with cover artwork by Russ Heath and a 20 cent original cover price. Also included are three issues of Weird War Tales: No. 42 (October 1975) featuring cover art by Joe Kubert depicting a skeleton pilot; No. 94 (December 1980) from the story arc The War That Time Forgot featuring a Tank vs. Dinosaur theme with cover art by Joe Kubert and a printed UPC barcode; and No. 106 (December 1981) from the same story arc titled The Dame… The Dinosaur… or Death! with cover art by Joe Kubert. The Weird War Tales issues have original cover prices of 25 cents, 50 cents, and 60 cents respectively. Each comic book is individually housed in a protective plastic bag with a backing board.
Condition report:
The collection is in mid-grade condition. The two copies of Four-Star Battle Tales No. 1 show minor spine ticks and light wear along the edges. Weird War Tales No. 42 presents well with sharp corners and minor visible spine stress. Weird War Tales No. 94 has a clean cover surface with minor blunting at the corners. Weird War Tales No. 106 shows a slight spine roll and minor surface wear. None of the issues are professionally graded by CGC or CBCS, and all appear to have intact covers with no major visible detachments.
